Karen's Artist Statement

My intention is to show that art can be beautiful as well as thought provoking. I want to reveal our shared humanity through my images. I feel it’s important to express these truths so that others can see themselves and know that they aren’t alone.

My inspiration comes from everywhere. I use the insights I have learned from my personal experiences, dreams, meditations and books to create my paintings. I am fascinated by people and what makes us behave in certain ways. The human figure is the most natural instrument to use to bring our human story to light.

I love telling this story through watercolor. It is such a unique and versatile medium. Nothing else looks like it, the color can be so vibrant and alive, then soft and quiet. I feel the beauty of this medium makes it possible for the viewer to connect to our shared story.
